Beach body season is here. Where are the best places to get the best health food in the QC?

With summer around the corner, all I keep hearing about are the new diets for summer.

But these fad diets really aren't my thing. A healthy, year-round lifestyle is. Diets come and go like bad dates (something else I seem to know a little about). You try it for a little while and either get really pissed, fall off the band-wagon or you're just not that into it.

I get it. So, that is why I committed to myself and my family, to make lasting changes that make us feel better and that gives our bodies the fuel they need to go the distance given our busy lifestyle.

Here are the 5 Health Food Stores in the Quad Cities.

1. Greatest Grains, Davenport, IA.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. It's pretty much my hangout. I am in and out of there several times a week. When I want fresh, organic juices (my favorite is carrot, apple, beet, spinach and spirulina) organic, fair-trade coffee or even a gluten-free wrap or salad with a ton of avocado, this place is my jam.  I love the selection of other items, like supplements, bulk food items and teas, as well as, perfumes and natural cosmetics.

2. Hy-Vee Health Market in Milan, IL. (although there are many throughout the QC and surrounding areas).

Why on earth would I single out the Milan store? Selection and variety of whole-foods based supplements. That is why. I have not see the selection anywhere else in any other store quite like the one there. I adore the Health Market Manager, Wendy. She has her own journey with healing foods that she has been on and really knows her stuff.  I am willing to make the drive to get what I need. Yes, it is that important to me.

3. Heritage Natural Foods, Moline, IL. and Davenport, IA.

Sometimes you can get things at one place you can't get at another. I tend to visit health food stores like some people visit book stores or coffee shops. I love the ambience and seeing what things are there that I haven't seen yet. It's the little things that excite me in life. I have always loved the extensive homeopathic remedies this store carries but that is just my thing. They have a lot of other great organic foods, products and supplements, with two stores to choose for our area.

4. The Herb Cellar, Village of East Davenport, IA.

I remember coming here a few times on my 'where are all the crunchy places' explorations. The Herb Cellar has unique gifts, essential oils, as well as, health food items in-store. It's located in the nostalgia of the Village of East Davenport, which has a lot of unique stores along the way. It's a great place to get educated, too. They have one of the largest selections of free health magazines.

5. Everything Healthy, Moline, IL.

This was my newest discovery and I am happy I did. Depending on which side of the river I am on, depends on where I go. This place also does fresh juices and smoothies, with a unique selection of grass-fed meats, including wild-caught Alaskan salmon.  They also have supplements and gifts in the area near the juice bar.

6. QC Food Hub, Davenport, IA.

Located along the beautiful Freighthouse Farmer's Market, along the river, this food hub hosts educational classes, seed exchanges and has local gifts and food selections from local farmers and artisans. There's a very nice selection inside, from produce to refrigerated, to handmade soaps and gardening supplies. They definitely have some t-shirts that have made my 'most wanted' list.

I'd like to give an honorable health market mention to Blessed by Nature in Aledo, IL.
