It's an old stereotype that people from the midwest are nicer than anywhere else in the country. It's certainly something I've felt, having had friends on both coasts. They always describe me as being "too nice."

But as it turns out, it's not just a stereotype. According to an actual study from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, people in the midwest are typically more friendly and conventional.

(They found that New Englanders were most likely to possess the traits of uninhibited and temperamental).

In a poll that breaks things down even further, Iowa was voted the second friendliest state in the U.S. Illinois came in at 24 on the list. So congrats Iowans! We're all friendly here in the Quad Cities, but Bettendorf and Davenport fall on the friendlier side.
