According to an article on 247wallst.com the metropolitan area in Iowa where your car is most likely to be stolen is Davenport. It's become a hot button community issue, and it seems a lot of thefts here in town are part of the rise of youth crime.

Over on the Illinois side of the river none of the Quad Cities get the dubious distinction Davenport received for Iowa. However, when you're state includes the third largest city in the country. They're going to have the most stolen cars.

That's not to see we don't have a stolen car issue in the Quad Cities. According to the Quad City Times there have been 822 car thefts in the five Quad Cities this year. That beats last year's total of 792 stolen cars.

Want to keep your car safe, here's some tips to do just that:

  • Don't leave your keys in the ignition or in the car.
  • Don't leave your car running unattended.
  • Even in your garage, don't leave your car keys in the ignition.
  • Don't leave valuables in plain sight where thieves can see them.
  • Don't leave your car unlocked.

Most car thefts are crimes of opportunity. When you do any of the above you're just making it easy for your car (or the valuables in your car) to be stolen. Locking your car. Keeping your keys safe. Hiding your valuables in your trunk is no guarantee your car or valuables won't be stolen. But it gives you better odds of not being a car theft victim.
