Davenport Considers Allowing Backyard Chickens

Davenport is looking like they will make the jump onto the chicken bandwagon.

I love that Davenport is considering this. Backyard farming is an excellent way to support your own family, ultimately, helping keep food costs down and learning what our grandparents and great-grandparents knew. They knew where their food came from and grew a lot of it themselves.

I am a big proponent for gardening and local sustainability, farmer's markets and humane farming practices. This would certainly be an added plus to living in Davenport.

According to WQAD.com,

"3rd Ward Ald. Bill Boom said he and other elected officials have been watching other communities that have already allowed backyard chickens, and haven't seen many negative issues at all."

More than 800 signatures have been collected on a petition in support of Davenport allowing backyard chickens.
