Happy 4th of July weekend part two! With the holiday falling on a Wednesday this year, it seems like celebrations have been lasting longer than just a typical weekend. Some celebrated last weekend, some this weekend, and some opted for both!

With those celebrations comes fireworks; but not everyone in the Quad Cities is loving them. Davenport in particular has seen a spike in fireworks complaints this year. As reported by the QC Times, Davenport police have responded to 480 complaints since June 1 – an increase of more than 25% since last year.

Those 480 complaints aren't too far off the average; usually the department gets at least 400 complaints around this time. Fireworks only became legal in Iowa last year, and since then the timeframe for setting them off has actually gotten smaller. I guess people are really just making the most of their allotted nine hours this year.
