A Morrison, Illinois family was awakened early Wednesday morning after an explosive device went off in their mailbox.

It occurred at about 2 a.m. Wednesday damaging the family's home.

"We thought it was someone shooting off a firework," homeowner Christina Attig Wetzell told Andrew Ball, "Just a big boom. I didn't think it was an explosion at my home."

Wetzell took to Facebook Wednesday morning posting, "Please keep your ears open. Someone put a bomb in my mailbox. Damage even on the inside of the house.. So glad everyone is okay. Please let me know if have any info on who may have done this to us."

Wetzell says police have collected remains of the mailbox and sent it to a lab to swab residue to find out what type of explosive was used.

Nobody was hurt in the explosion.
