We have some pretty regimented weekend routines at our house. The Mrs. likes to head out early on Saturday morning to the Farmer's Market beside Modern Woodman Park in Davenport. I often joke to her on the way out the door to make sure she takes the time to "pick out a nice, ripe farmer."

She does have a regular 'lettuce guy' who she buys from each week. They know each other by name. She knows his schedule - what weeks he may miss due to other obligations... OMG! My wife is dating the Lettuce Guy.

If you love fresh, locally grown produce, or need a lettuce guy to date, I've listed the markets here in the Quad Cities you can visit, and here is a link to a list of Farmer's Market now open throughout the region from the Quad City Times.

  • The Davenport Freight House Farmers Market is open year-round at 421 W. River Drive, but the outdoor market - where Lettuce Guy is - is open Saturdays from 8am to 1pm; from 10am to 2pm on Sundays, and 8am to 1pm on Wednesdays (outdoors only).
  • The Davenport Farmers Market is now open in the NorthPark Mall parking lot from 8 am to Noon on Wednesdays through October.
  • The Bettendorf Farmers Market is open Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-5:30pm through October at 2117 State St.
  • and The Quad City Times reports that "The Positive Empowerment Group will operate two markets selling chemical-free produce in Rock Island. The first one is at Franklin Field, 9th Street and 12th Avenue, and will be open from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays from the middle of June until the end of October. The Cunningham-Brooks Farmers Market at 4th Avenue and 9th Street will sell produce from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday from mid-June until the end of October."
