Since November we've had the good fortune of not having to wait for barges to pass through Lock & Dam 15 in Davenport to use the Government Bridge. A construction barge has been in the lock all winter as work has been performed to install equipment to allow the lock to be drained for inspection.

On Thursday, the barge was moved out of the lock, and the bridge swung for the first time in months in anticipation of re-opening the lock for the barge season on the river. Today, the bridge is closed to vehicular and train traffic as repairs are made to the lock gates themselves.

The bridge is expected to be re-opened to traffic by 7pm tonight. In the meantime, you'll need to use the Centennial Bridge to pass between Rock Island and Davenport.
