We all experience cable and internet outages from time to time, but if you've been noticing a huge slowdown lately, it may have to do with the weather.

According to WQAD, Mediacom customers in the QCA, Preston, Maquoketa, and Comanche areas have been experiencing widespread service outages over the last week. The freezing temps wreak havoc on the underground cables that carry digital signals, and the repair of the issues has been slow-going since safety regulations require technicians to work in pairs in the cold. With fewer techs available, fixing the problem has taken longer than usual.

A spokesperson for Mediacom said the company is doing their best to alleviate the issue, but things will hopefully be back to normal once the area thaws out a little. Here's to hoping the weather warms up soon, for more than one reason.
