It may seem like the kids just finished school, but the beginning of a new school year is only six weeks away form some area kids.

This year, thousands of Quad Cities children will not have the school supplies needed to start school. The United Way is holding a day of action today to alleviate that problem.

You can help in two ways:

Drop off school supplies between 10am and 2pm at Wood Intermediate, 5701 N. Division Street in Davenport. Here is a list of what is needed.

Donate to the purchase of school supplies at unitedwayqc.org/pencils, or text PENCILS to 41444.

I read a quote recently that said when your table is full, you should set more chairs. This is a great way to set more chairs at the table of a good education for Quad Cities students, while alleviating the load on teachers, who often spend a great deal of their own salaries supplying kids in their classrooms.
