Heads up parents, your kids are going to be coming home with more than just homework after school this year! And it might be the weirdest party favor ever.

According to WQAD, every student in the Moline school district will be going home with a free smoke detector this year. The Moline Fire Department is really pushing to make sure every home has a smoke detector.

My main question is will they install it for you? Either way, it seems like a smart move. A typical smoke detector would run you $20-$25 – unless you go for the $7 one that pops up, which just seems a little sketchy.

Regardless of if you need another smoke detector in your home, it's a good reminder to check your batteries! Especially with the cold weather coming up, you'll be using your fireplaces and space heaters more than ever!

Fire departments encourage you to change the batteries in the smoke detectors at the same time you set your clocks back for the end of daylight saving! That happens at 2 a.m. on November 4, 2018.
