Illinois Target Stores Recall Speaker That Catches On Fire

We all love to blast our favorite songs at full volume. Sure, we might think it might blow the speaker but we obviously hope that never happens. Well, it's happening.

Target stores in Illinois are rushing to pull a certain speaker off of shelves. They are posing a huge fire hazard because they are melting. That's right, like ice cream. There's a simple way to get the speaker fixed but I'm not sure I would keep that thing in my house any longer.

If you want to keep your speaker for whatever reason, Target and the speaker's manufacturer have the perfect remedy for you. That includes cutting a while you plug into an outlet.

Target Recalls Speakers That Catch Fire

Earlier in April, Target announced that it is recalling Yoto Mini Speakers from Illinois stores and stores across the country.

The reason Target is pulling them from their shelves and the reason Yoto is recalling these speakers is because the speaker’s lithium-ion battery can overheat and catch fire, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall says that consumers should immediately stop using the speakers, take them away from their children, and contact Yoto to receive a free replacement smart charging cable. Consumers can send a photograph of the old cable cut through the middle to receive a new replacement cord.

Seven incidents about the speaker have been reported. Yoto has received six reports from U.S. consumers and one from a UK consumer of the speaker overheating or melting. No injuries have been reported. About 251,165 units were sold in the U.S. Canada has also recalled this speaker.

Besides Target, the Yoto mini speaker has been sold online at Amazon.com and in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 through April 2024 for about $70.The mini speaker is meant for kids ages 3 to 12.
