To borrow a quote from Christopher Nolan's movie The Dark Knight, for kids dreading a return to school next week, it was the discovery 'they deserved.'

According to a report in the Sioux City Journal, a worker installing a new phone system at a high school in George, Iowa, east of Sioux City, discovered a colony of bats in the ceiling.

There is no indication how long the bats had been there, but that section of the school is nearly 100 years old, and over the years there have been reports of bat sightings.

The upside for students is that officials had to push the start of school back by a week to allow time for exterminators to remove the bats and sterilize the area.

No word on whether that cancelled week gets tacked on the end of the school year, nor whether any local millionaires are suddenly interested in the space.
