Iowa Senate Votes to Keep Speed Cameras

Despite their unpopularity, I for one support the use of speed cameras. Statistics show they reduce accidents where they are in use, and if you're not speeding, then what do you have to worry about?

According to a report by our news partners at WQAD News 8, the Iowa Senate has voted to keep speed cameras in use.

There had been a aggressive push to eliminate the unpopular cameras, but the Iowa Senate elected to retain them, while putting new rules in place for their use.

The WQAD report says municipalities using the cameras will have to justify their use, and ensure the monies collected go towards public safety initiatives, or road construction.

The City of Davenport says the cameras are effective at reducing accidents, and they take in $1.5 million in revenue each year.
