I'm Canadian, so donuts, coffee, hockey and maple syrup are in my DNA. So, imagine my heartbreak when Krispy Kreme donuts closed the doors of their 53rd Street location in Davenport in 2008. The building now houses a Chick-Fil-A restaurant.

The reason given for the store closing then was the poor health of the parent company, but now that has changed. CNN Money reports that a German company that owns Krispy Kreme and the Einstein & Noah bagel chain is buying Panera Bread for $7.5 billion. All parties hope to have the deal sealed by Q3 of this year.

Along with owning Krispy Kreme, JAB also owns K-cup coffee king Keurig Green Mountain, the Gevalia brand of coffee as well as coffee chains Caribou, Peet's.

So, here's keeping fingers crossed for the opening of the perfect restaurant in the Quad Cities: Panera sandwiches with Krispy Kreme donuts, and Green Mountain coffee.

Would you like to see Krispy Kreme donuts return to the Quad Cities? Sound off in the comments.
