It is now illegal in Illinois for companies to ask an applicant about their criminal background. Illinois is 1 of only 4 states that has passed this law. Typically, when you apply for a job there is a box you need to check to indicate whether or not you have a criminal background.

This is a touchy subject because I believe people do change, but there are some crimes that need to be brought to the attention of a potential employer in my opinion. Petty offenses i get. But rapists, pedophiles, and violent offenders? Come on, there are some things you should know.

Stats do show that an offender in 60% less likely to re-offend if they have a steady job in order to provide for their family. I'm all for equality opportunity and for people coming out of prison and getting their life back together, but there is a time and place. They should be put on a program and ease themselves into the system. So be aware if you are hiring or if you see new workers coming into your job. Know that their "background check" may not have had a criminal background check.
