The recent wave of car thefts that have occurred all over the QCA seems to be mainly perpetrated by kids in middle school, according to OurQuadCities.com.

Local News 4 spoke to a 13-year-old girl who says many of her friends have been involved in the thefts. The kids tend to take big chances when the steal by committing the crime in broad daylight.

Iowa lawmakers are making efforts to deter these thieves by increasing the penalty when other felonies are committed while stealing a car.

As always, we remind you to keep your cars locked and valuables inside your house. Many of these stories start with someone leaving a purse or phone in their unlocked car. Don't make that mistake.

Hopefully, this new legislation being introduced will crack down on the thefts. These kids are making bad decisions that could end up costing them a lot.
