It's been controversial from the get-go - a fee charged to non-residents of Moline who utilize the services of first responders. We first told you about the fee back in March.

Out-of-town drivers passing through Moline have been surprised by the law that has been on the books for almost three years now. Non-resident drivers who are involved in crashes are billed for reimbursement of services if emergency responders are called on scene.

The fees are as follows:

Squad Car: $66.00
Fire Truck:   $262.00
Ambulance: $127.00

According to a local report, Mayor Stephanie Acri feels revenue generated by the fees can be made up elsewhere, and that eliminating the fees will make Moline more shopping friendly.

Moline Council still has to approve the elimination of the fee.
