I've heard of restaurants removing certain menu items because not enough people were ordering them, but getting rid of something because it's "too popular" seems kind of strange.

Apparently, McDonald's disagrees, however, according to NBC Chicago. Their Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Tenders are disappearing from all US restaurants for a bit because they are selling too well.

It sounds as if McDonald's simply can't keep the item in stock and they would rather remove the tenders from the menu than run out of them in the middle of the day. The news is not that bleak for Chicken Tender fans, however. The chain says that the item is expected to return by the end of December. Hopefully the golden arches has a big enough inventory by then.
