The Quad Cities just experienced one of its biggest snowstorms of the winter. While most of us can simply avoid the winter weather by staying indoors, others have to brave the elements. Here are some of the toughest jobs to have during the brutal QC winter.

1. Department of Public Works

Let's just get the most obvious one out of the way. Before you try to drive on the crappy roads, your mail carrier and garbage man has to. Not to mention the people in the salt trucks and snow plows trying to make the roads more suitable for driving.

2. Food delivery drivers

At some point during the long, hard winter, you'll likely be compelled to eat WITHOUT leaving your house. Because of that, delivery drivers are usually in high demand. It's typically a thankless job, but driving in a blizzard to make sure you get your large pizza with breadsticks should not go unnoticed. Make sure you tip them extra for their troubles!

3. Airport crew workers

Some airport employees get to stay warm inside, but many have to maintain the aircraft and/or runways outside in frigid temps, sometimes needing to clear snow off the tarmac or de-icing planes. Not the way I'd want to spend a snow day!

4. News reporter

Notice I said news reporter...weather people generally like the winter months because it keeps them busy...and THEY usually can stay indoors. But a news reporter doing a stand-up outside in a blizzard with the wind whipping you and snow blowing in your face isn't my idea of a good time.

5. Morning radio host

O. M. G. The horrors of having to wake up at 4:00 a.m. and scrape the ice off your windshield! And you didn't get a chance to stop at Starby's on the way to work because of the extra six minutes it took you to warm up your car! I can't imagine the struggle Kevin & Olivia encounter EVERY day. ;-)
