What You Need to Know Before Boating in the Quad Cities

It's that time of year again on the Mississippi River.

I haven't been boating in years. I don't even want to admit how long it has been. For someone who loves water as much as I do, I am almost embarrassed that I haven't made more time to do something I enjoy so much. Being a busy parent, I am certain you relate.

Memorial Day Weekend doesn't quite mean that summer is here just yet, but just like when poop happens during labor when a woman is about to give birth, you know it's imminent.

According to KWQC.com:

"Boaters should keep a charged cell phone with them, extra fuel and life jackets. Boaters must have a life jacket for each person on board. Children under the age of thirteen must wear a life jacket while on the water.

Boaters should be familiar with the body of water they’re on. Maps are available through the Corps of Engineers."

Drunk driving will also be something the water patrol will be looking out for. The laws are very similar to those of operating a vehicle under the influence.
