Today is National Pizza Day (even though EVERY day should be)! Pizza is one of those foods people are EXTREMELY picky about; some people like a thin and crispy crust, others like deep dish, some like lots of cheese, others prefer lots of sauce. The best way to find out what you like is to try it all! Here are some of the best spots in the Quad Cities.

1. Frank's Pizzeria - Silvis, IL

Being born and raised in Silvis, I've eaten at Frank's probably more than any other place in the QC. It's certainly a local landmark. My grandparents used to take us every Sunday, and now my parents make Frank's part of their weekly routine, as well.

Frank's specializes in "Quad City-style" pies, which boast a maltier crust and strips instead of slices. Take it from me, the fried chicken is excellent, too!

Other popular purveyors of "QC-style" pizza include Harris Pizza (Bettendorf, Davenport, Rock Island), Fields of Pizza (Moline), Uncle Bill's (Davenport), Wise Guys (Davenport), St. Giuseppe's (Moline), and Riverbend Pizza Place (Port Byron), among several others.

2. Happy Joe's

Founded in Bettendorf in 1972, Happy Joe's claims to be the originator of the legendary taco pizza, and it's definitely worth the hype. You're not a true Quad Citian until you've tried it.

Happy Joe's is technically considered Quad-City style, even though its pizzas are cut as traditional slices rather than strips.

3. Falbo Bros. - Davenport

Originating in Madison, WI, in 1992, Falbo Bros. Pizzeria soon found its way to Iowa and has become an integral part of Downtown Davenport's River Music Experience. I was unfamiliar with Falbo Bros. until I returned to the QC last year, and I've probably eaten there about a dozen times since then. The ingredients are fresh and the dough is amazing! Falbo Bros. is great for either a quick lunch or a large gathering, and the combinations of crust and topping choices are sure to please just about everybody.

4. Alfano's - Rock Island

If you're sick of the QC-style pizza, Alfano's has your cure.

The Rock Island-based restaurant serves up ENORMOUS Chicago-style stuffed pizzas, along with double-dough and thin crust varieties. And the prices ($16.75 for a 15-inch single-topping) are quite reasonable, too.

The reviews have been very good for Alfano's...I'll definitely have to try this place out for myself!

5. Casey's General Store

I know what you're thinking: "Slater, you're putting GAS STATION FOOD on this list?"

Yes, I am. After all, Casey's slogan is "Famous for Pizza." And with good reason. My girlfriend lives across the street from a Casey's store so we grab a slice or two pretty regularly. The breakfast pizza is particularly enjoyable, with a choice of sausage, bacon, or veggie. Taking a slice for the road? Feeding an army? Casey's can fit your needs.

Where's your favorite pizza place in the area? Suggestions are ALWAYS welcomed!
