The Quad Cities has bred some major names in college and professional sports, from one of the world's top tennis players, Madison Keys, to Stanford basketball's all-time leading scorer, Chasson Randle.

Alleman High School graduate Cody Sedlock is looking to add his name to that list.

Now a pitcher at the University of Illinois, Sedlock was just named the Big Ten's Pitcher of the Year.

Sedlock made waves nationally earlier this year, when he threw an incredible 10 shutout innings, striking out 14 batters, as the Illini beat Ohio State 1-0.

The Sherrard native kept that momentum going the rest of the season, finishing with a 2.49 ERA and averaging over 10 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

In their latest rankings, Baseball America has Sedlock 36th on their list of this year's top 100 MLB Draft prospects.

Sedlock still has another year of college eligibility left, but hasn't announced whether or not he plans to return to Champaign for his senior season.
