Eastern Iowa Man Arrested For Killing Two Dogs With An Ax
A horrific story out of Decorah, Iowa.
CBS2 Iowa reports that 21-year-old Douglas Usgaard has been arrested for allegedly killing two dogs that belonged to a family member.
Police records say Usgaard attacked and killed a 14-year-old labradoodle named Trina and a 13-year-old Shi Tzu-bichon mix named Maz at the home where he is staying with family members.
The weapon allegedly used to kill the animals was an ax.
Usgaard was arrested and charged with two counts of animal torture, which is an aggravated misdemeanor. He plead not guilty to the charges and is awaiting trial for a separate infraction in November. Usgaard allegedly stole two iPhones from Luther College's football stadium back in July.
Usgaard is being held in the Winneshiek County Jail on a no-bond hold for violating his pre-trial supervision. This added a pre-trial revocation charge, which is a felony.
