Iowa Community Rallies Around Injured Toddler

An eastern Iowa toddler was injured after a tragic accident and the community has generously responded.

Nothing is scarier, as a parent, than when something horrible happens to your child. There's a feeling of helplessness and so much worry about how they will make it through. While it's a part of life as a parent, from experience, I can tell you that when you have the support of your family, friends and community, it's like the biggest hug you could ever receive.

The parents of 15 month old Lucas Harrison, Holly and Tyler from Clinton, IA., experienced a horrific emergency when he was unexpectedly attacked by a friend's newly adopted dog. (Warning: the pictures you will see at the Go Fund Me page are graphic)

According to their GoFundMe page,

"He was airlifted to the University of Iowa Childrens' Hospital where he had a 6 hour surgery involving at least 3 surgeons.  A large part of his gum/bone including permanent teeth were ripped out, most of his nose cartilidge was destroyed, and he will have lifelong damage. He will not have any upper front teeth, will need dental reconstruction to hopefully support false teeth when he is an adult, and have more facial surgies in the future."

While the future for Lucas' recovery is a long one, wonderful communities of people have pooled together over $160k (and growing) towards the medical costs and long healing journey ahead of little Lucas.
