Texas DoorDash Driver Shot At By Man On Horseback Completes Delivery
A DoorDash driver delivering Panera Bread near Pearland claims he was shot at by a man on horseback while navigating a country road near Rosharon. Despite the terrifying ordeal, the driver identified only as Matthew, managed to complete the delivery—although slightly late.
DoorDash Driver Survives Harrowing Horseback Encounter During Delivery Near Rosharon
Matthew, sharing his story on a DoorDash subreddit, described the incident as “one of the craziest DoorDash stories ever told.” According to him, the event unfolded on Saturday night when he found himself stuck behind three men on horseback on Juliff Manvel Road, about a quarter mile from his exit. The riders, blocking both lanes, were reportedly causing a backup of over 50 cars, laughing as drivers attempted to maneuver around them.

Frustrated and unable to pass in his Hyundai Sonata, Matthew politely asked the riders to make way. Instead, one of them reportedly responded with an insult. After multiple failed attempts to swerve around the horses, one of the riders allegedly became enraged, dismounted, and threatened Matthew with a gun.
A Bullet To The Car
“He said, ‘I oughta pop your ass right now,’ and I panicked,” Matthew recounted. As the rider approached his car, Matthew floored the gas pedal, driving into a ditch in a desperate bid to escape. Moments later, a gunshot rang out, striking Matthew’s car.
"I freaked out, locked my doors, and just floored it into the ditch to get away," Matthew said. The bullet hit the trunk of his car, passed through the rear seat, and lodged itself in a frying pan he had in the trunk—a stroke of luck that Matthew believes may have saved his life.
Calling The Police
Matthew immediately called 911 as one of the horseback riders attempted to chase him down. He managed to reach Highway 521, where he met with Fort Bend County deputies and filed a report. Authorities later found the bullet lodged behind the driver’s seat.
After filing the report, Matthew was determined to complete his delivery. "I still had the Panera Bread order, and I was going to finish that freaking delivery," he said. The customer was understanding about the delay and even added an extra $10 to the tip, bringing Matthew’s total earnings to $25 for the delivery.

Ironically, despite surviving the harrowing ordeal, Matthew received a contract violation from DoorDash for the three-hour delay. He also received a message from the customer later, informing him that Panera had mixed up the order, delivering someone else’s food by mistake.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the case, though they have no suspects at this time.
“So just remember,” Matthew wrote in his post, “no matter how bad your day gets, at least you weren’t chased down a country road by a guy on a horse with a gun.”
