Have you ever heard of a speakeasy? It's a type of bar that was started in the United States during prohibition. It was illegal to sell alcohol during that era so underground clubs opened where they sold booze even though it was against the law. Customers had to know the secret location and password to get in to avoid the police.
Nowadays, some lounges have a speakeasy theme. They have that retro feel from back in the prohibition days. Many of them even have special entrances and passwords to enter but don't worry they won't turn you away like back in the day.
With the whole pop-up craze going on right now in the entertainment world, speakeasies are a common theme. In fact, a new one is coming to Illinois starting November 14th until March 1st. The Four Season Hotel in Chicago has teamed up with the #1 bar in the world, Handshake Speakeasy located in Mexico City.
This new project is called the Mile High Cocktail Club. Patrons will start at the Adorn Bar on the 7th floor of the hotel. They will be escorted to the 46th floor to enter the secret speakeasy. Customers can enjoy drinks from a special menu and a beautiful view of the city. It will truly be a unique experience.
