Pierson Wofford dropped the buzzer beating 3-point dagger last night (Wed. Jan. 29) for Augustana to beat #4 Elmhurst 94-93.

Roy J. Carver Center in Rock Island was absolutely rockin' last night when Senior Pierson Wofford nailed a 3-pointer in the final seconds to give the Augustana Vikings the win over the #4 Elmhurst Bluejays. This has moved Augustana to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in CCIW. The buzzer beater gave Elmhurst their second loss of the season moving them to 17-2 overall and 8-2 in the CCIW.

According to the game recap from Augustana Athletics, the Bluejays were on top 86-81 with 1:48 remaining, when Lavon Thomas of Elmhurst was called for his fifth foul and received a technical for protesting that call. This took the big guy out of the game giving the Vikings an opportunity. Wofford drained both technical shots and Micah Martin of Augustana hit both foul shots to bring it to a 1-point game. With 26 seconds left, Elmhurst brought their lead back to 92-87 after a pair of free throws.

Fast forward to 12 seconds left to play. Wofford scored to make it a one possession game. Freshman Matt Hanushewsky made a clutch steal on the in bounds pass which forced Elmhurst to foul. Hanushewsky went on to make both free throws. Behind 92-91, the Vikings were also forced to foul, putting the nations' 3rd leading free throw shooter in Derek Dotlich at the line with 6 seconds left. Dolitch missed his first free throw but made the second putting Elmhurst up 93-91.

Jack Jelen took the in bounds pass, crossed mid-court, took it to the left wing and passed it back to Wofford who was 30 feet out and ready to take the shot. Wofford pulled up and drained it with the game clock hitting zero.
