Eastern Iowa Trades Teacher Honored For Encouraging Students To Believe In Themselves

It's the Fall 2023 semester and we are heading out to schools with our awesome program with Nothing Bundt Cakes and Scooter's Coffee to honor and reward our awesome Quad Cities teachers and educators. It's called QC Teacher of the Week and we are so excited to announce this week's teacher of the week!

It's now time to announce this week's B100, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and Scooter's Coffee's QC Teacher of the Week!

Congratulations to Dan Milburn, Trades teacher at Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf!

Mr. Milburn was nominated by one of his students, Cole. Cole said in his nomination:

Mr. Milburn has been my teacher for 3 years. Because of him, I am going to enter the trades for my career. Mr. Milburn has made me believe in myself and motivated me for a career in welding. Mr. Milburn goes out of his way to make connections and help kids. He realizes that many of the boys who take his shop classes do not have a father in their life. He is very patient with us. He takes steps to show us that he cares and teaches us things that a father would teach his son. I always tell him how thankful I am for him. Because of him I took welding 3 and received a certificate and will be serving an internship with John Deere. Mr. Milburn has allowed me to work on community projects such as welding bike racks for the City of Bettendorf and welding a swing set for the middle school special needs classroom. He even organized a representative from the Navy to talk to his classes about welding in the Navy. He has given me so many options to think about. I am really grateful for how he cares about his students and goes above and beyond to help us.  He also seeks out his own funding and donations to keep the shop in working order.  Keeping welding and the other shop classes hands-on is essential. He fights to have the best hands-on experiences for his students. I am not a kid who really likes school but Mr. Milburn always gives me something to look forward to. Because of all of these reasons, Mr. Milburn is extremely deserving of this award.
