If you take the I-80 bridge often, you might be impacted by some intermittent lane closures.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says that, weather permitting, crews will start washing the I-80 bridge from Rock Island County to LeClaire on Sunday, August 27th.

There will be nightly lane closures from 8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday as the work continues. It's expected to take crews 2 weeks to finish the job. There will also be some lane closures Illinois 84 and on Cody Road.

You're advised to leave early and budget some extra time for delays. Take an alternate route if you can. Watch out for people in the work zones, stay off your phones, and pay attention to the speed limits. The bridge was last cleaned back in April.

Other QC Bridge Work On Sunday, August 27th

The other local bridge work happening on Sunday, August 27th is the second explosion of the old I-74 bridge. Of course, that will incur some closures too. The new I-74 bridge will be closed for a few hours as the explosion is expected to start as early as 7:30 a.m. Probably not a good idea to try to go down to the riverfront to watch it either, that will be closed off.

You can get updates from IDOT on their Twitter @IDOTDistrict2. You can check to see how messy traffic is somewhere (which is definitely smart to do before any road trip FYI) on IDOT's traveler information map. You can get more details on the bridge on I-80 Mississippi Bridge's website.
