Here’s When Mississippi River Bridge Cleaning Will Impact I-80 Traffic
It's spring cleaning season for everyone and that includes the I-80 Mississippi River bridge.
Weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that they're going to wash the I-80 bridge over the Mississippi River. The lane closures on the bridge will start April 16th.
If you're traveling this way, you can expect nightly lane closures from 8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. You'll have to deal with it for a hot minute, as the bridge washing is expected to take two weeks to complete.
I know we're all excited for more lane closures. We don't get enough of them around here. They had to clean the bridge last spring too, so of course it's back.
But there will be a few closures off of the bridge for the washing too. There will also be intermittent lane closures on Cody Road and Illinois 84.
You're advised to leave early if you're going this way as you can expect delays. It's probably a good idea to avoid crossing the river here if you can for a couple of weeks and take an alternate route. If you just can't and you have to cross here, pay attention to work zone signs, changed conditions, posted speed limits, watch out for workers, and put your phones down. All stuff you should be doing anyway.
