Finding places that offer great health care is very important to you and your family. So many hospitals and clinics around the country have incredible doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, and specialists to help give you great care if and when you need it.

But some states offer better health care, have better access to health care, and have more affordable health care than other states. Luckily for us, Iowa is one of those states that are on the better side of the scale.

Iowa Is The 2nd Best State For Health Care

Recently, WalletHub put out its findings for 2023's Best and Worst States for Health Care. To find out which states offer better health care than others, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions and evaluated those dimensions using 44 relevant metrics. Below are those three dimensions

  1. Cost
  2. Access
  3. Outcomes

Finally, WalletHub calculated each state and the District’s overall score to rank them from the best to worst.

WalletHub found that Iowa is 2nd best state for Health Care. Topping the list (home of the Mayo Clinic) is Minnesota. The state with the worst health care this year is West Virginia. Illinois was toward the bottom at #36.

The study revealed that Iowa tanked 11th in Hospital Beds per Capita, 7th in the percentage of Insured Adults, and 8th in the percentage of Insured Children. Unfortunately, Iowa ranked 50th in cancer rate meaning Iowa has the 2nd highest cancer rate in the country.
