A Clinton man who is wanted for first degree murder has been arrested and his bond is set at $1 million, cash.

According to the Clinton Police Department, officers arrested Carlton Douglas Jr. who is wanted for Murder in the 1st Degree. Douglas was arrested for murder of Cedric Hood back on December 3, 2020 at a gas station in Clinton.

Clinton police identified the whereabouts of Douglas and arrested him at 520 North 13th St. in Clinton.

According to the Clinton Herald, Douglas is being held in the Clinton County Jail. His bound was set at $1 million, cash only. Douglas’s next court appearance will be a preliminary hearing. That hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on January, 12 in Clinton County District Court.

First-degree murder is a class A felony which is punishable by mandatory life in prison under the Iowa Code.

ORIGINAL STORY: In a press release on December 10, the Clinton Police Department were asking residents if they had any information for a suspect that is wanted for murder.

According to the Clinton police's announcement on social media, on December 3 at 6:15 pm, the Clinton Police Department responded to Hop-N-Shop, 716 S. 4th Street in Clinton, for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male who had been shot. The victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as 26 year-old Cedrick D. Hood.

Officials from the Clinton police say that as a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Carlton Douglas Jr., for Murder in the First Degree.
