I've never understood the fear people have of clowns, but, despite their cheerful appearance, some folks will totally lose their wits just looking at a photo of a clown.

There is an old adage that says you can overcome a fear by becoming that which you fear. For clownaphobics, a class called Clowning Around might be the answer.

The class is taught by the QC Clown Troupe and focuses on teaching students to apply makeup, choose a costume and learn activities and movements to create their own clown character.

Newly-minted clown school grads will make their debut at Red, White, and Boom on July 3rd.

Three sessions will be held -- June 14th-16th, 21st -23rd, and 28th-30th -- at the Rock Island Fitness & Activity Center on 17th Street in Rock Island. Cost for the class is only $25, and admission is restricted to those ages 10 and up.
