WQAD reports that bleached counterfeit bills are making their way through the QC.

The US Secret Service has recently notified the Davenport Police Department about the fake money and specifically, bleached $10 bills.

“They’ll take a $10 bill, bleach the bill, reprint a $100 bill over the face of it, so then it looks just like a $100 bill,” explains Sergeant Mark Berger of the Davenport Police Department.

Police say QC residents could receive a counterfeit bill and not even notice.

A quick double-check can prove if the $100 is the real deal. An authentic bill will show Benjamin Franklin in the center and in the watermark on the right-hand corner. A counterfeit bill will have Franklin in the center, but show Andrew Jackson in its watermark.

Additionally, real hundred dollar bills will have a security embed that says "USA 100," while a $10 masquerading as a $100 will still read "USA TEN."

If you suspect you have come across a counterfeit bill, contact police immediately.
