Buckle Up: Iowa And Illinois Are In For A Rough Summer, Says The Farmer’s Almanac
It's looking like a toasty summer.
We've spent the last 3 months complaining about cold weather, wishing it would warm up so we could complain about hot weather. Well my dear, I have good news for you. We'll have plenty to complain about.
Before we break it down, let's recall that Summer 2024 was Earth's hottest summer since records started being kept in 1880. And do we really think that heat is going anywhere?
The Old Farmer's Almanac has released their Summer 2025 forecast. And go ahead and make sure you have functioning fans.
So somewhere between 'scorching' and 'sultry'. Which are both just fancy ways of saying 'really stinking hot'.
The Almanac is predicting Iowa and the Midwest will be an average 4 degrees higher this summer than normal (compared to the forecasted national average of 2.5 degrees above normal). And yes, they're thinking this summer will give last a run for it's money.
Meanwhile, Illinois and parts of the Great Lakes are forecasted to get above-normal rainfall this summer.
So if you're doing the Bix 7 race in Davenport or you're riding in RAGBRAI this year, make sure you're stocked up on hydration items.
You have time to get ready, as meteorological summer doesn't start until June 1st, with astronomical summer starting with the summer solstice on June 20th.
The Farmer's Almanac says they wouldn't be surprised to see record-breaking heat this summer given the trends from recent years. Yippee. Looks like we're in for a toasty summer either way you slice it.
