Can Coronavirus Spread Through The Mail?

When you open up your mailbox, you might not like what you find inside. More ads, and more bills. But one thing that you definitely don't want to get is coronavirus. So far, every indication is that catching the virus through your mail is NOT likely to happen.

KCRG TV reports that both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control say that the risk of catching the virus from a piece of mail is very low. The United Postal Service echoed those statements. The USPS is an essential service during these trying times, bringing people items like medications, online shopping items, and Social Security checks, and soon federal stimulus checks.

Officials for the Northland and Hawkeye District of the USPS say that postal carriers have masks and use hand sanitizer along with sanitizing wipes. They have also increased cleaning efforts inside post offices and have taken other measures to keep employees and customers safe.
