Feathers flew in Chicago traffic today.

There really is no telling what you'll find in Chicagoland traffic and here's exhibit A.

According to NBC Chicago, chickens were wandering around the Eisenhower Expressway on I-290 near Kedzie. And of course, it was around 9:00 a.m.- rush hour.

The already typically disasterous Chicago traffic apparently really slowed down to what looks like a standstill as the chicken crossed the road and sat on the left shoulder of the inbound lanes.

@jeanesweather Who lost their chicken in the morning rush??? I hope the little guy made it. #chicken #fyp ♬ original sound - kevin.jeanes

There's no word on where the chicken(s) came from or how it got to vibing on the expressway, but Illinois police had the perfect (and really only suitable) statement in response to it:

We will check the other side and get back to you.

There's also no update on the welfare and whereabouts of the chicken since the bird's daring morning. Good luck trying to make 911 believe that situation. A chicken on the road in urban Chicago? Get real.

The cause of the chicken's location is unknown, but there are many possibilities. Someone could have gotten to work out of the expressway rush hour traffic and realized they left that darn chicken on the road. KFC could've had an escapee. Someone else's boss probably didn't believe their excuse to being late to work.

Luckily, the Chicagoland area is used to unbelievable traffic congestion anyway so the chicken wasn't actually slowing everyone down that much.

They’re about ego, community, and those "get up off the dirt" moments we all wish we had in real life.
