The city of Davenport announced on Monday that they are trying to help renters who are struggling during the coronavirus by offering a temporary rent assistance program.

On Monday, Davenport's city council announced that they recently approved re-purposing federal funding used in the city's Urban Homestead program to the temporary Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program.

Applications are now available for housing rental assistance of up to $1,000 per month for up to three months through the City of Davenport’s Office of Assisted Housing. The city of Davenport will begin accepting applications on May 1st.

According to the city of Davenport's Facebook post, those who are eligible and approved will not have to pay back any money they receive.

Applications can be picked up at Heritage High Rise, 501 West 3rd St., or by requesting them at this link.

Eligibility requirements according The City include:

  • Current Davenport resident
  • Currently reside in a rental unit that you have occupied at least since January 1, 2020
  • You were working as of January 1, 2020 AND as a result of COVID-19 you either:
    • Lost employment or your monthly income has been reduced by at least 50%
    • Have applied for unemployment benefits
    • Were current on your rent and all household utilities as of March 1, 2020
    • Your household’s current income under the following:

*8 or more people per house should contact the Program Staff. HUD Limits subject to change. Household Income includes current wages, unemployment benefits, child support, military benefits, and social security. All income coming into the household is required to be reported.
