Davenport Gives Go Ahead To Riverfront Playground
Davenport city council took another step forward in it's Main Street landing project by approving a design competition to build a 'destination playground'.
According to WQAD, at the February 26th, council meeting, members approved moving forward with the project, by hosting a design competition. This is part 2 of it's Main Street landing project.
Phase 1 of the Main Street landing project is the 'flex lot'. The 'flex lot' will be used as a parking lot but can be used for an area for bands, vendors, food trucks and more.
The competition is where companies can submit designs and concepts for the two-acre field next to the Sky Bridge. The are a few requirements from the city including, safety from the railroad through it, accessibility for all abilities and most importantly, flood resilient.
WQAD says it is a $3.5 million dollar project with more funding is possible with grants and public-private partnerships. Ground breaking for the project is planned to take place in Spring 2022.
