A man from Davenport Iowa has claimed a $2 million Mega Millions® prize today that he won in the game’s giant jackpot drawing nearly a month ago.

Ben Sanford says he is splitting his winnings with his stepfather, Jason Sanford.

News clip below:

The 37-year-old man Ben Sanford said he knew he won big back in July, but he waited to claim the prize, giving him and his stepfather time to think about what they would do with the money.

The two said they usually buy tickets together and have always said they would split their winnings.

Remember the huge drawing last month that everyone was buying tickets for? That whopping $1.3 billion dollar jackpot? That is the Mega Millions Jackpot Sanford bought six plays for and ended up winning the second-highest grand prize ever offered in the game.

His easy-pick tickets matched the first five numbers that night to initially win $1 million. But Sanford had added the Megaplier option to his purchase, which multiplied the total winnings to $2 million.

The winning numbers in the July 29 drawing were: 13-36-45-57-67 and Mega Ball 14. The Megaplier number was 2.

Ben Sanford said he yelped in surprise when he checked his ticket that night and saw he had won big. He went downstairs to share the good news with his step-dad but he was asleep watching sports.

The next day they talked about the winning ticket. The two said they would carefully invest the winnings, and Ben Sanford may get a new car.
