Davenport Schools Made Quite the Accomplishment

Davenport schools are making the news once again but not for what you think.

I love it when I can write about the good stuff.

'They' say it takes a village to raise a child. I never really thought that as a young parent.

As I got older and the kids got more involved with other activities, especially with their education, I realized I need to rethink that. There is nothing better than knowing you have a supportive community around you. That includes having support during your children's school career. School officials, parents, teachers and coaches all play a key role in the success of your child's education.

Davenport Community Schools have seen an increase in the number of students graduating. This is the highest graduation rate in 10 years.

I learned at KWQC.com today, "According to an announcement made on May 4, 2016, the five -year cohort graduation rate has increased by 2.67% for the 2014-15 school year. The district’s dropout rate has dropped to 3.9% from a high of 10.12% in 2010-2011. That decrease of more than 6% is the lowest rate since 2003-2004."

With all the efforts and lengths the district has gone to keep kids in school, the ultimate choice was their own. Giving children the tools necessary to be successful is an awesome thing to sit back and watch. Kudos to all who were involved, but most of all, kudos to Davenport students for empowering yourself to choose to do it.
