Some Quad City residents are already breaking the bank to fill up the gas tank. It's a vicious cycle. You have to fill the tank, so you can go to work, so you can fill the tank. With gas prices hitting a new average high seemingly every day lately, it's no surprise to see drastic jumps in price, and we all know gas is higher on one side of the river than the other.

Illinois residents around the Milan area are having a little bit extra sticker shock this morning, with less than 24 hours seeing a 20-cent increase in price per gallon.

Gas Buddy shows that yesterday around this time, Regular gasoline was $5.09 per gallon at the Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh on 1st Street in Milan.

This morning, customers saw a much different price. Listener Jeremiah sent us a photo from the same store this morning, showing that sometime yesterday or into this morning, the price jumped a whole twenty cents.

As of Monday, the nation's average gas price was $4.86, a whole 59 cents higher than it was a month before, and $1.81 more than a year ago. Barrels of oil are hitting $120 a piece, nearly double than they cost in August of last year.

How much longer can we keep up with these prices? It seems like the days of cruising by the river and "quick and cheap day trips" around our state is becoming as pricey as it used to be. Hopefully, things get figured out soon, or we'll all be hoofing it.
