All of our bank accounts are hurting. With President Trump once again delaying the tariffs against Mexico and Canada for a month, experts say consumers and motorists in Illinois will feel the financial effects even more if the tariffs eventually become a reality.

When the new tariffs went into effect on Tuesday the American Gas Association was working with Trump to negate the rising costs of gas in America. Although the 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada have been postponed to April 2, eventually, we'll probably have to pay the difference at the pump if these go through.

If you're looking for a bright side to this, people in Illinois are paying quite a bit less for gas than they were a year ago under the previous administration.

Locally in the Quad Cities, if you live on the Illinois side, you're paying a ridiculous amount of money for gas and Chicago is even worse.

Every week, Stacker gives a report on the weekly changes to gas prices and even compares it to this time the year prior.

They report that Illinois' current gas price is $3.22 per gallon. That's only 2 cents cheaper from the week before. Compared to 2024 when President Biden was in office, Illinoisans are saving $0.54 per gallon which is great news. If you have a 16-gallon tank, that's saving you a little over $9 every time you fill up!

In Chicago and the Quad Cities (Illinois side), prices are still the highest in the state.

According to GasBuddy, in Chicago near Pequod's at Ashland and Fullerton avenues, the BP there is charging $4.29 per gallon right now. Stacker has the city average at $3.62.

Here in the Quad Cities, people on the Illinois side are paying on average $0.31 more than those on the Iowa side. That's right, the average cost of gas per gallon in Rock Island and Moline is $3.27.

Let's hope gas doesn't go up because it's already too expensive out there.
