Frontline grocery store employees have become the heroes of the coronavirus pandemic; often working long hours with little protective gear to ensure families get access to food.

Because of that, Hy-Vee is rewarding their workers with bonuses and benefits, reports KTIV.

All full and part-time Hy-Vee employees will receive a 10 percent bonus for hours worked between March 16 and April 12. The bonuses will be paid out on April 17.

Additionally, workers will be offered new benefits, including job protective leave if they test positive for COVID-19 or are required by a doctor to self-quarantine. Another benefit is telehealth services that will be affordable for workers.

The chain is waiving copays for full-timers and their dependents that use the service, and part-timers will be able to access it for a minimal fee.

“Our employees are our most valuable asset, and we must do everything we can to support them and their families during this critical time,” said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman of the board, CEO and president.  “We hope these new benefits will help lighten the load for our employees who are working around-the-clock to serve our customers in our stores.”
