Plane Slides Off Icy Runway At Des Moines International Airport
It's been a Thanksgiving week to remember.
Right after we got all fat and unmotivated from Thanksgiving, we ran into a big problem: travel. And not because of stupid drivers, but because of stupid snow.
The ice and snow made things dicey, and that was definitely the case at Des Moines International Airport.
According to KCCI, a Delta flight slid off the pavement at Des Moines International Airport. The FAA says that Endeavor Air Flight 5087 slid off the end of a runway as it was turning onto a taxiway.
It happened Saturday night around 9:30 p.m.
Luckily there were no injuries reported. The 54 passengers were taken off of the plane via stairs.
Here was the pilot's announcement:
By 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in Des Moines, the city already had about 10 inches of snow from the day.
Des Moines International Airport hasn't said much about the incident but Sunday, they reported that "the airfield is now open and operations have resumed". The FAA is investigating the incident.
This same incident also happened at Chicago Midway this weekend. A plane slid off the runway, prompting a ground stop at the airport. O'Hare also underwent multiple delays and a ground stop for a while due to icy and snowy conditions.
Unfortunately, we're not done with the winter weather just yet. You can keep track of your flight's status out of Des Moines on their website.
