Doctors, nurses, and medical professionals all across the country and around the world have been working hard the past two years to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Giving vaccines and boosters, treating illnesses, and curing diseases are just some of the things doctors do, in case you forgot. Doctors spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in school to keep all of us healthy and safe.

While we appreciate doctors and nurses everywhere, there are some states that are better for doctors to practice than others. Iowa is one of the better states for doctors while Illinois could use some help.

A new study from our friends at WalletHub has come out showing 2022's Best & Worst States for Doctors. This list has come out ahead of World's Doctors' Day on March 30, which celebrates doctors around the world.

To find out which states are better for doctors to practice than others, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions"

  • Opportunity & Competition
  • Medical Environment

WalletHub then evaluated those dimensions using 19  metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for practicing doctors. And after doing all of that math, WalletHub determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics which gave them their list of 2022's Best & Worst States for Doctors.
