Illinois Ranked Among The Top States For Cheapest Domestic Air Travel
Believe it or not, your holiday flights out of Illinois aren't as expensive as they could be.
We're somehow already closing in on holiday travel time, whether it's for Thanksgiving or Christmas, we're all going to be at the airport and on the roads.
Personally, it's much easier (and cheaper) for me to drive home through Illinois instead of fly but the air fare price tag could be worse.
A survey from Net Credit revealed that Illinois is actually the 8th cheapest U.S. state for domestic air travel.
The data they averaged from O'Hare and Midway found that the average flight costs $358.20. And that price may keep dropping. The average flight price in Illinois dropped by $10.34 from 2024. Most states saw some kind of drop in air fare over the last year.
A study earlier this year from the Official Aviation Guide ranked O'Hare as the most connected airport in the U.S. The airport recently revealed designs for it's new concourse. American Airlines and Chicago-based United have been embroiled in a lawsuit with O'Hare over having an equal number of gates and being "hubs".
Experts say that competition is actually good for travelers, as it gives us choices with more flights, destinations, and lower prices. All good to have in time for the holiday travel season.
Midway, meanwhile, is a hub for Southwest Airlines. They're mainly focused on domestic flights and don't have as much of an international hub as O'Hare but they do also offer some flights to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
