Illinois Facebook Marketplace Scam Busted For $23,000 Of Stolen Dyson Hair Tools
The trendy hair tools were at the center of a busted scam.
In Orland Park, the Cook County Sheriff's Office found dozens of Dyson hair straighteners in a warehouse in connection to a Facebook Marketplace scam.
Dyson hair products (yes, the vacuum company) are one of the most popular hair styling brands now. Their hair straightener is among the priciest ones on the market, sitting around $500.
Investigators found a Facebook Marketplace page selling the straighteners which seemed sus, so the investigators got in touch with Dyson. They found out that the products that were listed 'for sale' in the Marketplace posting were actually stolen. Interestingly, the Facebook Marketplace page disappeared after investigators talked to the manufacturer. Weird how that works.
Police got a warrant on the warehouse in the 13200 block of Southwest Highway in Orland Park, which was their last known location, and found the hair straighteners.
Specifically, 46 Dyson straighteners totalling about $23,000 worth of stolen goods (which is a lot of money for hair straighteners, is it not?).
The kind of Dyson straightener on those pallets in the picture are the Dyson Airstraits, which are wet-to-dry straighteners that use airflow instead of hot plates to straighten hair. The Airstraits aren't even the most expensive Dyson hair tool- that would be the viral Airwrap, which is a multi-styling tool that will run $650-$750.
There's no word on whether an arrest has been made in the investigation. The Cook County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into the scam and cargo theft is ongoing.
