A parent group in Illinois is getting quite the traction.

This is one of my favorite parenting moves I've seen in a while. A group of parents in Northbrook, Illinois got their kids Christmas gifts that are going viral for the nostalgia and the kids' reactions.

Meg Kate McAlarney and her husband, Kyle joined other parents in their 7-year-old daughter's 1st-grade year to "Wait Until 8th", meaning the parents signed a pact to not get their kids smartphones until the kids are in at least 8th grade.

But the McAlarneys and other parents came up with a way to keep their kids' friend groups connected: landlines. Tin Can (screen-free, kid-friendly, only allows calls from approved contacts) landline phones.

And yes, they're pink and look straight out of a 90's Delia's catalog.

A video by the McAlarneys showed their now 8-year-old daughter on the landline phone with her friends, bringing back a sense of nostalgia to all who remember the hope that a parent wouldn't pick up when we called our crush's house phone.

Honestly, I love it.

The McAlarneys say that their daughter's new phone hasn't stopped ringing since December 24th and that it is for sure her favorite Christmas gift.

They say they don't have personal smart-devices for their kids at home, but the kids are still tech-savvy as they use iPads at school. The McAlarney's son James got a smartwatch when he turned 10 since he rides to school on his own.
